We aren’t going to recommend music a lot, but this is something you’ve got to hear. Page CXVI has always been a favorite around here, probably due to their love for the classics. The following tagline from their website says it all:
Page CXVI is a project started with the idea of making Hymns accessible and known again. They are some of the richest, most meaningful, and moving pieces of music ever written.
It seems that they feel about music the same way we feel about books. Their entire discography is brilliant, but today we suggest their latest release, Good Friday to Easter, which contains the following songs:
- O Sacred Head Now Wounded
- Go To Dark Gethsemane
- Three
- Roll Away the Stone
- Christ is Risen
- Christ The Lord has Risen Today
- How Deep the Father’s Love For Us
- Hallelujah
You can purchase it directly from them from their website. They’ve also got it available to stream on SoundCloud. They’ll even give you the chord charts for your own personal worship experience. However you do it, you don’t want to miss it.

And while we wouldn’t understand it, maybe you don’t listen to music. For your devotional consideration, we submit lyrics to a few of the hymns featured on this release.
God bless!
O Sacred Head Now Wounded
O sacred head, now wounded, with grief and shame weighed down,
Now scornfully surrounded with thorns, your only crown.
O sacred head, what glory and blessing you have known!
Yet, though despised and gory, I claim you as my own.
My Lord, what you did suffer was all for sinner’s gain;
Mine, mine was the transgression, but yours the deadly pain.
So here I kneel, my Savior, for I deserve your place;
Look on me with thy favor and save me by your grace.
What language shall I borrow to thank you, dearest Friend,
For this, your dying sorrow, your pity without end?
Lord, make me yours forever, a loyal servant true,
And let me never, never outlive my love to you.
Go To Dark Gethsemane
Go to dark Gethsemane, you who feel the tempter’s pow’r;
Your Redeemer’s conflict see; watch with Him one bitter hour;
Turn not from His griefs away; learn of Jesus Christ to pray.
Follow to the judgment hall; view the Lord of life arraigned;
O the worm-wood and the gall! O the pangs His soul sustained!
Shun not suff’ring, shame, or loss; learn of Him to bear the cross.
Calv’ry’s mournful mountain climb, there’ adoring at His feet,
Mark the miracle of time, God’s own sacrifice complete:
“It is finished!” Hear the cry; learn of Jesus Christ to die.
Early hasten to the tomb, where they laid his breathless clay;
All is solitude and gloom; who hath taken Him away?
Christ is ris’n! He meets our eyes: Savior, teach us so to rise.
Christ the Lord is Risen Today
Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!
Earth and heaven in chorus say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply, Alleluia!
Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids him rise, Alleluia!
Christ has opened paradise, Alleluia!
Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Once he died our souls to save, Alleluia!
Where’s thy victory, boasting grave? Alleluia!
Soar we now where Christ has led, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia!
Made like him, like him we rise, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!
Hail the Lord of earth and heaven, Alleluia!
Praise to thee by both be given, Alleluia!
Thee we greet triumphant now, Alleluia!
Hail the Resurrection, thou, Alleluia!
King of glory, soul of bliss, Alleluia!
Everlasting life is this, Alleluia!
Thee to know, thy power to prove, Alleluia!
Thus to sing, and thus to love, Alleluia!
